GRIDCO Invites Bids for 225 MW Floating Solar at Upper Indravati Reservoir

Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) has invited bids for a 225 MW floating solar power project at the Upper Indravati Reservoir, part of the existing Upper Indravati Solar Park. Building on water rather than land sidesteps one of the more persistent bottlenecks in Indian solar deployment — the difficulty of acquiring large contiguous land parcels — while also reducing water evaporation from the reservoir surface, a secondary benefit increasingly cited in floating solar proposals across Indian reservoirs.

At 225 MW, this would be a substantial addition to Odisha’s renewable capacity, and sits within a broader pattern of interest in floating solar as a way to pair generation capacity with existing hydro and irrigation infrastructure rather than requiring entirely new sites. The Upper Indravati location specifically benefits from existing grid connection infrastructure already built out for the solar park, which should shorten the interconnection timeline compared to a fully greenfield project.
